Friday morning, Apple enthusiasts who waited hours in front of Apple Stores reported problems activating their new phones. At one of Apple's flagship stores in San Francisco, approximately 500 people were in a line that stretched for nearly two city blocks, as store security officials allowed groups of about 20 people at time inside to purchase the iPhone. Lines were expected to be long as Apple isn't selling the iPhone through its online store. The much-hyped launch hit snags Friday morning when servers overloaded, crimping the phone activation process. Despite promotions boasting that customers would walk out of the store with a fully operational iPhone in hand, many had to wait to activate their devices, and the process was unexpectedly sluggish.The new model, which went on sale starting at $199 at 8 a.m. today in 23 countries, supports a faster cellular data network and features a GPS chip, on top of other minor hardware tweaks. It comes with a major software update, also available to original iPhone owners.
